Hey guys, I really hope you can help me with this one.. I have just been offered this fine bass, it is in a very good condition and has never really been used very much. I have searched the internet the best i could and just cant seeme to find any info about this bass in fretless version.. Is this piece very rare? How much would be a fair price for it? Is this a collectors item? I really hope you can help me ! Regards Carsten from Denmark

I bought a lefty 2365 myself but mine has an ash body and I paid 300 Euro. The bass shown on your pictures seems to have the normal combination of mahogany /birch. Fretless basses were made with rosewood or maple fretboard and are pretty common. Silver series 2365 models are well constructed and have a great sound. I think a price between 300- 500 Euro is well paid. |

I have a '78 Silver Series Precision Bass Fretless.
I paid €100 for it 'cause the electronics where completely trashed. The woods are pretty good. I think €400 would be a fair price, depending on what it sounds like. |

GUYS,GUYS.....
Have a good look at the pictures and read what this is about: NOT about an ordinairy lefty fretted Jazzbass, but it's a STOCK (!!!) FRETLESS one and this is indeed a very rare bird! During my 6 years of collecting and intensive research I never saw one "live", nor on picture, nor mentioned in any pricelist. Never even knew or dreamed that such a bass excisted! That obviously makes this bass very, very collectable and much more valuable than "just" an ordinairy fretted Ibanez Jazzbass. If a "normal" Jazzbass is already worth 300/400 Euro, I'd say this fretless version has a COLLECTOR'S VALUE that will easily reach above 500 Euro. Sure would like to see the biddings if this baby would pop up on Ebay (presuming the family of collectors would be aware of this one being fretless...). After all it's complete with pickup/bridge covers, original case, no replacement parts and in very good condition and above that it's a Silver Series instrument: all in all this is a collector's dream truely.

Hello everyone, thank you for your different openions, lets keep the debate going here.. Im glad to find out that my bass is so very rare, but the prices in Denmark for theese kinds of instruments are just a bit higher than you guys are use too.. a regular jazzbass copy from the 70's will easily sell for 500-600 euro's or more.. so obviously this bass will never be sold for that price, its worth far more to me.. Maybe anyone has a lot of old guitar magasines and bruchures from the time ?? has nobody ever heard of this model before? could it be custom made ? Are there any common marks or signs to tell if its a custom?

As I said before, I have an original Silver Series P-Bass fretless and it was originally fretless, it wasn't transformed. I contacted the guy that sould it to me and found the original owner, that curiously had (and still has) a music shop. He told me that he bought it out of the catalog to put in his shop's exibition. So I think that these models weren't custom made.
Another thing: he also told me that it was pretty cheap at that time.
PS- when I said your bass was worth €400 I forgot to say that I was considering prices here in Portugal.

Carsten: I'm amazed about the prices that are being asked and offered for Ibanez copy guitars from the 70's era in your country (Denmark). Apart from these contributions on this board you also sent me a couple of mails and one can easily draw the conclusion that for some reason the prices in Denmark are at least about double the prices I'm used to over here in Holland. Are these instruments hard to find and therefor more valuable in your country than elsewhere in Europe?
And to all of you: fretless Ibanez basses from the 70's copy era are not that rare, but they were always (as far as I knew until I saw this fretless Jazzbass) Precision copies. In order to determine the value of an instrument you have to consider: is it listed often in the catalogues/pricelists or not (in order to know if there were many made or not), how "unique" is it? how often do you see a particular model offered for sale on Ebay or somewhere else, is it "stock" and if yes: is it complete (bridge/pickup covers?), original, does it come with original case, how is the condition etc.
You just have to judge this stock fretless Ibanez Jazzbass on it's own and you can't compare it with an "ordinairy" lefty fretted one, or even a fretless Precision copy. That's like comparing apples with pears, or whatever the correct expression is.

Well, then comparing the expression "comparing apples and oranges" with the Dutch expression "appels met peren vergelijken"(comparing apples and pears) is not comparing apples and oranges.

Uploading them here is the best solution. You need to add an "image" tag line for each picture you want to include. Like this:

The real trick is to make sure that your image files are 50k or less. If they aren't then you need to crop, resize, or resample and save them as compressed JPEG files. You need an image editing application for this. Here's a pretty impressive Windows app that gives you all the tools you need to crop, resize/resample and compress your digital images.
