Neck radius - what is it?

Craigjc Username: Craigjc Registered: 11-2002 Posted on Tuesday, September 13, 2005 - 7:21 am:    The radius of the fingerboard is how curved it is from the E-string edge to the G-string edge (on a 4 string bass). It is determined by the amount of arc you get when taking a slice of a circle (see diagram below). If you cut a neck in half, along the 12th fret for example, and looked at the edge of what was just cut, the radius would be the arc of the fingerboard. The larger the number in inches (or cm) the flatter the fingerboard. Norinradd Username: Norinradd Registered: 02-2004 Posted on Tuesday, September 13, 2005 - 9:36 pm:    Thanks for the explanation! I thought that the radius had something to do with the back side of the neck, like if it was more "C" shape or "D" shape. So I was wrong and the radius is about the fingerboard. By the way, does anybody know if the Musicman Stingray has a more "C" shape or "D" shape neck? Comparable to P-bass?
