Not a Hondo, but cheap & Korean for sure! In the UK those basses (like a neck-through Precision) were sold in the early 80s, badged as Satellite, and I've seen the same instrument with Memphis on the headstock. The construction's very similar to the Cort range of cheapo neck-throughs from the same era. The hacked-up scratchplate's as original as the Ibanez "logo". I've seen quite a few random guitars & basses lately with Ibanez slapped on the headstock. A new Ebay trend? Maybe there should be a "FakeWatch" topic!. Jon. |

Looking at this Captain Flamingo headstock, the first brand that comes into my mind is Fenix by Young Chang. http://www.guitarmaniacs.de/html/users/axekingarmi n/axekingarmin-gitarre-fenix2.shtml It isn't so bad if a neck-through-body guitar has no fretboard as long as the neck is decently laminated maple. Don't use heavier strings than .045-.105" and nothing will go wrong. BTW, what's that wrench/spanner insert in the body right under the fretboard? I think this bass can be quite nice, also without the decal. Ginger |

Ginger, your question: "BTW, what's that wrench/spanner insert in the body right under the fretboard?" I did not see it in those picts, but it can very easily be truss-rod adjustment, there are some side-adjustable truss-rods around... |

So, why he says he's selling it because it wouldn't have a truss rod? He just doesn't know where to look!

Ginger, I was lookin' at the Strat-picture.. No, that is not any side-adjustable truss there on that bass, but quite common hole for normal type truss-rod, that is adjustable on the body-side of the neck.. as in Fenders (without bullet-type truss) , S.D.Curlees and others.. Maybe the owner has not found it, like you suggested?? |
