I bought an 1976 Artist bass today. It's in good shape and came with the original case. Serial is J766435. Colour is a brown violin. Abalone markers on the neck. Artist truss rod cover.

It has 2 all metal pickups with rectangular polepieces. Two volume knobs, 1 Tone knob, 1 on/off mini switch and on pickup selector switch (up = neck, middle blend, down bridge)

Looks like some sort of neck trough or glued on neck joint.

The bridge looks like a T-Bird 3 point. Says made in japan under. String through with ferrules.

Sounds amazing, Rickiesque on the bridge, nice and round blended and a bit grungy on the bass side.

Any insight, info & help about this piece will be appreciated.

Thanks !

Welcome to ICW!

Does your bass have asymmetrical horns and an ash body?

Here is the actual bass.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item =270110882423&ru=http%3A%2F%2Fsearch.ebay.com%3A80 %2Fsearch%2Fsearch.dll%3Ffrom%3DR40%26satitle%3D27 0110882423%26category0%3D%26fvi%3D1

Hope this help... I'm really not sure about the kind of wood, very grainy and quite heavy considering the size.

Shrap:

It's a 2626B Artist II bass. Not much info has surfaced about these very neat, but short-lived basses. Check out the thread, in this section, entitled: "Could you identify yet another bass please!"

Shrap, the body is of Japanese (or more precisely) Sen-ash. The neck is laminated maple. I have no info about the pickups, but being Ibanez, I am quite certain they were made by factory called Nisshin Onpa Seisakusho (made pickups for quite a few Japanese guitar factories)
Tailpiece/bridge is from Ibanez's lawsuit times, it is a copy of Gibson 3-point bass bridge..
This is the 3rd model of Ibanez Artist bass line.

Thanks for the info guys. I figure I made a good deal (I paid $500 CAN for it) It sounds amazing so I'm a happy camper.

The knobs are clear black plastic with white lettering variety. Do you think I should go with the more classic Gibsonesque Amber type ones ???
