Hi everybody! My name is Frank, and I'm from Montreal, QC, CANADA. I've been lurking over the forums for a couple of weeks... in a quest for "the truth". I work as a technician for a guitar amps/effects manufacturer; and that's what got me into playing music, especially bass. Some years ago, I took lutherie classes, and build a couple of things too; and learnt a lot.

To make this story short, I was at a collegue's house to give help with his network, and I saw "that bass"; like she was calling me "play me, play me". Love at first sight... First sight in his dark basement that made me think "well, it's a Fender, and somebody sanded (for whatever reasons) the headstock. Still, i fell in love with the bass with my ears, not my eyes (and then some)... and finally got it from that engeeneer who was more than happy to give her a new home.

My google searches led me here, on this forum.

For now, here's my theory... This p-bass copy was "Fenderized" by the pre-pre-owner.

There's no serial number anywhere; in the neck cavity there's a handwritten "3", and no serial number nowhere. Everything seems original. The bass was in really poor cosmetic condition, I spent almost a night removing !etching solution! and acids from the body.

The thumbrest position is consistent with the "Silver Series" P-copies... http://www.break-even.org/ibzspecial/images/th-silverfretbass-2.jpg

And my "sand pattern" on the head seems consistent with "Silver Series" again...

There's nothing on the neck plate, too. Two things that struck me... The 12th fret markers are the "old" big spacing; and in this particular case, the truss rod screw is not on the headstock.

Here is two pictures that I just took. Defenitively not in "museum condition", but she's a player!

Any help, or "cultural/history" links would be greatly appreciated!

If, indeed, this is an Ibanez, I'll be the happy owner of two; the other one is a fretless EXB404, that was my main bass.

Thanks in advance for your help, I'm very curious about this instrument; and I can say for sure that it won't be the last one!
