Hopefully someone can help me out here. I own a beautiful black, Ibanez Soundgear 4-string SR500FL fretless Bass with the markings. Based on the serial, C440020, I'm guessing it's a Cort, Korean model from 1994. But other than that, I have no clue about this model. The guitar is in basically mint condition with original first set of strings. The sound is amazing with a beautiful body. But there is practically zero information about this model, and I am very much interested in its worth at this point. I'm thinking of parting with it as its just sitting in its case practically untouched. If it's not worth much, I'll keep it. But due to its rarity, I'm also curious if it has possibly appreciated. Anyway, can anyone here point me in the right direction to find some info out (haven't heard back from Ibanez themselves yet) or know anything here? Thanks in advance! |

Justin, as far as i am aware, the SR500 (the FL is for fretless)goes for around $500-$550 new. It wont have appreciated because its not that rare a bass im afraid. it has bartolini mk 1 pickups and i believe a mahogany body, although i stand to be corrected. For resale id imagine $300-$400 dollars? |

Hmmm, are we talking about the same bass because you cannot buy this new as far as I'm aware. And it is a pretty rare model as there is zero information on it. The closest model I can find is the SR400FL from '93 (I think?). I need to look at the pickups but I'm pretty positive that they are not Bartolini MK 1s. Thanks for the help, but I believe we are discussing two different basses here. |

ok, based on your serial, you are right, it is a Korean built model, the 20th unit, thus the 0020, now the difference between the sr400 bass and the sr500 bass is that the sr500's have active circuitry and upgraded bartolini pups. the SR400FL is the standard SR400 bass minus frets, thus the rationale of FL being fretless. did you manage to check the pups in yours? do you have some pics you could post? i know the europen market didnt get any fretless models but the american market possibly did.. pics would be helpful |
