I play a 1980 MC924 (posted on here when I got it back in November 2005) which I love but I'm having some trouble since the 4-pole pickups are very low-output and preamp is incredibly noisy. Can anyone give me any insight into the Musician bass pickups from the following years? I've seen some 8-pole P and J style pickups from 1983 and 1984 as well as a 16-pole humbucker on the bridge (check out the links below). Anyone know if those have higher output and how they sound compared to the 1980's? http://cgi.ebay.com/Ibanez-Neck-Through-Bass-Guitar-Musician-Bass-1983_W0QQitemZ 190006151466QQihZ009QQcategoryZ38080QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-IBANEZ-MUSICIAN-ELECTRIC-BASS-GUITAR-1975_W0QQitemZ2 90006857428QQihZ019QQcategoryZ38080QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem thanks |

Sure, I'll bite. I think the 80's pickups are pretty hot, as I have an '84 MC888 with passive PJ pickups, and it's nearly as hot as my '85 924 with EMGs. If your pickups are super low-output, you may want to try having them re-magnetized, as the magnets can becoem demagnetized from exposure to stray powerful magnetic fields without you realizing it. |
