I would like to know the history of the Roadster/Roadstar Bass series. My brother has a 1979 Roadster(star?) which is in great condition, but we don't know much about these basses. Anybody else play one? |

Hello Dean, I saw your post on Ibanez Collectors Forum.I don't know the history of the Roadstar bass, but I have an old Ibanez ad from the '80s that shows Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy playing a clear finish Roadstar bass.I also have an Iron Maiden tour program from the early '80s showing Steve Harris playing an Ibanez Roadstar as well. I recently started playing bass by default because the guy that was working with us quit.I picked up a 1986 Roadstar Bass for about $150.00 from a friend of mine.I modified it with Dunlop Straplocks and Seymour Duncan Hot P-Bass stack and Hot Jazz stack pickups. They're more than adequate for the job.I play mine through a SWR Workingman's 15 combo every Sunday and Wednesday nights at different clubs.I put up my beat up old Roadstar against anyone's new Fender bass and it kicks ass on those Fenders.Mine has more output and better tone than those stock Fender pickups and stays in tune very well.I hope that you find this information useful and amusing.Keep rocking,Dean. Thanks, George |

Hiya Folks I too have a Roadstar II bass. I brought it purely because I love Roadstar guitars so much (and it was a bargain). Mines an '84 model (think its called a RB940) pickups are tight and funky and the action (like all Roadstars that I've encountered from this period) is brillant. Unfortunatley I'm not doing gigs on bass at the moment but I look foward to taking the beast out and blasting it through the old Trace Elliot in the near future..... Does anyone know if Ibanez made a fretless version ? Check out the Blue Horizon Ibanez site at http://209.1.224.12/xcvxcv65/blueibanez.htm to see exciting pictures of Roadstars and more or check out www.scuzzy.org to hear how bad an untalented fool like myself can make an ibanez sound.. hello DEAN, years ago I owned ROADSTER bass but if I recall it is quite a different animal than the ROAD STAR models that seem to more resemble a P bass, george is correct the late great PHIL LYNOTT had a few of the ROADSTAR models that he played during the later years of THIN LIZZY, now the roadsters that I have seen had the square head stocks with 2 tuners on a side and a smaller thinner cut body, and the roadstars all have looked like the famous fender P and a head stock changed "just enough" to not warrent a law suit, as we all know is another form of loving collectables altogether. Hello Ian, Yes they made fretless roadster bassguitars, I just bought one for 100 Euro, build in 1979, a great stroke of luck. The sound is just unbelievable. I just don't know if it is a RS900 or RS920 or RS940 Regards Ton |
