Please help with identification

Author Message Jimdsinger (Jimdsinger) Posted on Saturday, September 27, 2003 - 12:24 am:    I have an Ibanez 5 string bass with serial number F218546. From previous discussions I have deduced it was made in the Fuji Gen Gakki plant in January 1992 and was production number 8546. However, I do not know what model it is. It is a SoundGear 5 string with transparent blue/greeen color, a Rosewood fretboard, a maple neck, and gold hardware. Can someone give me an idea of the model and what it is worth. The closest I can find is an SR950TT (Transparent Turquoise), but that's a 4-string. Are the fret marker inlays dots, or ovals? If dots, then it might be an SR885TT even though TT isn't listed as an available color for the SR885. Also the hardware is black on the 885. It also has EMG pickups, but I had them installed myself. Not that it is relevant.Did they make a SR955TT? A second look at your photos also revealed the Gotoh bridge which is correct for the 800 series. The 900 series used Ibanez AccuCast bridges. I'll put my money on the SR885TT. He emailed me and said it was making scrating noises and thumping through the PA. I told him to send it to me and I would have it fixed. The next day he responded by saying he opened the transmitter and sprayed off some dust from the wire connection and it worked fine.A little common sense goes a long way. I found an exact match for your bass in the '93 catalog. It would be the SR995. It would be made of ash, with 3 piece maple neck, gold hardware including a gold Gotoh 5 string bridge (looks just like your's), rosewood fingerboard with dot inlays and it came in Transparent Turquoise. My catalog is the top one pictured. The differences between the 895 and the 885 appear to be an Ash vs. Basswood body, gold vs. black hardware and the finish colors. The There's an SR895TC that runs horizontally and spans both pages. Jim, you've got the fretborad and headstock on your image. The specs are the first row on page 33. Jim, I scanned the same page in, cropped a little off the edges, reduced to 60%, then sharpen to compensate for lost detail and finally saved as a Jpeg at a compression setting of 35. My bass, after you guys helped me, turns out to be a 5-String 1993 Ibanez SoundGear SR895TT with Ash body, a 3-piece maple neck with 24/medium frets. It has a Rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlay, a Gotoh 5 string gold finish bridge and gold hardware. it has been modified with J-style EMG active pickups. Have I forgotten anything? It has a head like a p-style fender bass and it says ibanez in cursive in gold paint on the head, It says nothing about what model it is or anything. I was told it from the 1960's. Identify a bass, that may or may not be 40 years old, by a description of it's headstock shape and logo! And give you a value on it? I only hope you can find my reply in all the various threads about this bass! It is worth exactly... one US dollar for every post asking about it. Time to start counting. I can only speak for myself, and though it may be a rare and early Ibanez instrument, I don't have a whole lot of interest in that phase. I would probably go for something from a little later on that looks a bit more solid and developed. Others here may have a different opinion and such an instrument would be worth more to them.
