It seems my text dissapeared... well, I am the new owner of this beauty 1984 roadstar II bass. Looking at the pole-piece screws in the pu covers, i suspect the front pu to be a P type split coil, and the bridge pu to be a double coil. The function of the three way switch is not completely clear to me, it's probably for choosing between the coils of the bridge PU? It plays real well this bass, and are quite happy with it. Who owns one too? |

Hans, Looks like you have an RB950CS. I suspect someone has modified the controls as they don't match the catalog specs. Cheers Steve |

Hans, My bad! After a closer look at the photo, I realized what I thought was an added knob or switch, is actually part of the stand! Cheers Steve |

Picked up an Ibanez Roadstar II bass off ebay really cheap. I think it's made in '83. serial #K833119 It plays nice with great action and boomy low end. The quality feels like an old Fender. Anyone own one of these? or know where to get any info about it. I'm just wondering what the body wood is made of. Pickups look like Dimarzio's and the tuners are really nice. The original paint looks stripped and the wood looks like alder or ash? I know Ibanez made alot of variations of the Roadstar II and I haven't seen one like this. Check out the pic. I believe that is an RB650. I don't think it was offered in a natural finish, so you're probably right about it being stripped. Body should basswood. Cheers Steve |

Yeah, I love these basses. I have three of them, an '84 and two '85s. Click below for a photo. http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2005-10/1092202/ibanez_rb650_basses.jpg The one on the bottom,I bought brand new in 1986 and it has been my main bass for all these years. It had and has "the sound". I broke the original maple neck in 1990 and later in the year, I called Ibanez in Bensalem,PA.and ordered a replacement neck. They told me that they had one left in the U.S. that would fit my '85 and but it had a red head stock and rosewood fingerboard..I told them to send it on. It cost $110. The last neck for the entire series is on my bastard bass and it's the best neck I'ever played...straight as an arrow and great feel. One of the cool things to me about the rosewood neck is that Ibanez changed to smaller profile tuners with the rosewood neck but the holes are bigger than the maple neck "sweetheart" tuners and that's great because I had some tuners from an '83 Fender Jazz bass that fit it perfectly. The knobs, tuners and string tree are from that same jazz bass. The other black one is what my bastard bass looked like originally..I got it on ebay and the cream/white one is getting put back together and is one I use for alternate tunings/backup. Yes, these are a great basses and I agree, they sound better than the fenders of the same configuration. Keep playing them ,save some money and sound great! |

HANS! Since I couldn't use your mailadress I'm hoping you will see this answer within the nearest months... I saw your bass and I believe it's an exact copy of mine that I'm about to sell! I don't think my controls have been tampered with either, though I havn't seen any other Roadstar with this kind of controlset. I was happy to see my basses twin brother! Here is a link to a picture of mine that will only work for a few months...: http://www.blocket.se/vi/8207301.htm?ca=11_s Cheers Isolda |
