Uros, I don't know how to tell you where to find a SR885 in Europe, except to contact the Ibanez Co and find out where the nearest dealers would be to you - or find one in the classified ads. I will certify that the SR885 is one of the most tone-filled and playable 5-string basses I have ever found, the top model of the Soundgear line. The neck is narrow and fast, built for speed, every standard fingering is an easy reach; it is the best feeling 34" scale 5-string bass neck I know of. What makes the rest of it special is the Vari-mid tone control. Mid frequencies are the ones most appreciable to the human ear, and having a control that will give you variable mid-frequency bands puts a whole world of tone out to work with that the listener will be able to discern right away. Having that much tonal control at your fingertips, that you can adjust in the middle of songs is one of the greatest features ever put on the face of a bass guitar! The tone is clearer on the Ibanez basses with the Vari-mid control and the Monorail bridge (BTB and the Ergodyne), but the SR885 has more resonant harmonics present and a 34" scale and narrower neck. My SR885 is a 2000 model, all gloss black, including the back of the neck. I am not aware that the SR885 comes offered in any other color. The SR1000 series basses are nice - craftsmanship and materials are top notch! The SR885 will play like like a 5-string version of the SR1000, with a slightly more resonant, less deep and compressed tone. Hope you find the SR885 soon. Wayne O |

The serial number tells all F=Fuji Gen Gakki (plant in japan) 1=Built in 1991 5=Built in May 6594= Production number for that month. I just learned this myself. I have been trying to identify my model SR885TT Jim

Jim, Where did you get the info concerning the month of manufacture? Logic would indicate that 2 digits are needed to convey that info since there are 12 months. Cheers Steve |

Steve, I got it on this forum somewhere. I don't remember what thread it was on. ex: F218546 (my bass) F-Fuji Gen Gakki 2=92 1=Jan 8546=Production # Thought it was from JohnS, but I don't know for sure. I would assume (oops)that all things being relative that they would just add a digit for Oct, Nov, & Dec. For ex: F/2/10/8546 This is just my theory. My wife tells me sometimes that I think I know everything. Obviusly thats not going to happen for at least another week or two. Jim |

Jim and Steve: While I understand the first serial numbering system that Ibanez used, I admit to being dumbfounded by the later/current one. I know the F is Fuji factory and that the next number indicates the year. But the only way I'd be sure of that "2" meaning '92 or '02 would be looking it up in a catalog. I can't confirm that the "1" means Jan. But, as there is no 21st month, it sounds reasonable. However, I'd never bet on this assumption. I've heard others say the last four digits equals the production number. Some have said for the month others for the year. I'd think it likely a yearly total. Can you really make over 8500 basses in a month? However, if it's determined that the "1" means Jan., then that's exactly what they did. Summing up, the "2" is the only digit I "know" that makes sense. |
