Hi John, it's a ST980WN. Never seen one "in person", only the pic in my 1980 German catalog... Juergen |

Yogi: Thanks. It's pretty wild looking. What's the idea behind this instrument?

I don't know what the seller means by unwound strings they all look wound to me, round wound. Noel Reading from Hendrix played a Hagstrom 8 string. You can get the same sound through an effects unit. |

So, you think these are bass strings and then regular electrics? E, A, D, G? Tuned an octave apart? |

Thats a good question John. I wonder if they sell or sold at one time 8 string sets. It looks like a web search is needed for me on this one! |

I mentioned the Hagstrom earlier in the thread. I got to play one a few days ago at Guitar Center and my opinion is that it is pure crap! Vintage crap! |

I just ran into one of these today. It was strung up as a 4 so I didn't even realize at first.I called and put a hold on it when I got back to work and I'll be picking it up tomorrow.Very nice bass but VERY heavy.Needs a little TLC but nothing major and I couldn't beat the price.I cant wait to string it up and see what it can do.GHS makes 8-string sets also by the way. Steve, did you open a shop or something?I wish I knew that before I placed the order. Does anybody have any literature on these models? All i can seem to find is a clip from what I think is a German catalog.I have nothing in my '82 and up cats and it's not in the '79 suppliment either. The smaller tuners look very similar to the tuners on my 1979 Studio st105 guitar. Some of the guitar guys will be able to tell you what they are called - I'm sure they are gettable. I'd post the pic of the head on the 'Antique Guitars' thread and ask. Geoff |
