Also, I don't think I have ever seen a dark mohagany ( neck attached to a lighter colored body like this one. I do believe mine is original, not Frankensteined. The body has a mahogany top. I don't see that neither in your 1972 catalogue nor on the German 1975 poster, but it matches the back of the neck. Dave_G is absolutely right about the aftermarket parts. The knobs are from a Fender "The Strat" etc., etc. It's a project guitar from someone who's very fond of golden parts. Some are real dogs however that are, even after some serious tinkering, mediocre at best. Overall I do like them (why else would I post here?)and I'd rate these guitars an average of 8 for playabilitiy. BTW Bill, On the vintage market 1976 Gibson Les Paul Custom with a maple neck and ebony block inlays are the cheapest available... because they suck. I saw one offered in Veenendaal for ƒ1500.- (that's €680.-) in 1999. It sucked and it was hot (serial number had been removed). On that same day the price of a 1978 The Paul with an ebony fretboard was ƒ1800.- and a mint CA2405 ƒ2350.- (it was DM1095.- in 1977). (all from different dealers and collectors under the same roof). I agree with you, Bill. The feel of a maple neck on an LP is kind of weird. (I did try peanut butter and honey, though, and that's sweet). In the South they eat current loaf with gammon and apple syrop. It's weird, but some get used to it, and some never will.
