Hi! I have an Ibanez Silverstar series, also strat type, from the early 80's. But it's not a Silver Series, that one I've never heard about. |

Hi Drew! Ibanez guitars with "Silver series" addition on the headstock are not very rare, although you don't see them as often as the "ordinairy" Ibanez guitars. Around 1976 until 1978 Ibanez produced Fender copies (Strat, Tele, Precision, Jazzbass) in a kind of upgrade version to their own copies we knew from the start of the seventies era. Better woods were used, the necks were not constructed of three pieces of wood, but of one piece. These improved copies got the addition "Silver Series". An even better series was produced with the addition "Challenger", but as far as we know these were only made for the USA market. Your white/creme Strat from the Silver Series is built in July 1977. For more info about Silver series/Challenger series check our homepage http://www.ibanez-vintage-page.com Kind greetz, Harry |

I am truly lucky for I knew not what I was buying in 1978 when I purchased a new blonde Silver Series strat by Ibanez. Turns out it was a rare "Challenger model badged as a Silver Series" and after trying to get more info on it from the factory, it appears (so far) to be one of only 2 produced in that manner. Rock Maple neck (skunk stripe, one piece, L series small headstock) Badged "Silver Series" White Ash (blonde) one piece body Standard Tremolo Staggered pole piece single coil pickups Purchased in Melbourne Australia in 1978. Serial number reveals guitar was crafted at the factory in February of that year. Pictures soon. |

My "lucky mistake" Challenger strat branded in error by the factory as a Silver Series, build date February 1978, shipped to Melbourne Australia.
